Late Ride

Got home after 5 pm and decided to do a "dinner ride" to the west. I like this route because the traffic is minimal after 6 pm. Crossed the Hay River bridge and saw an eagle flying over-head.

Headed down a side road where I cross the rail road tracks towards home. The late summer fields are filled with large bales of hay and lots of tasseling corn. I love this time of year......the smells of summer are so comforting, so strong.

Came home after my ride and enjoyed the rest of my night with Caryn and Carol, the volunteers that help Bike man with his lake monitoring. Ended our night with food, wine and good conversations overlooking a sunset on Tainter Lake. Perfect! (17 miles)

Perfect Combination

With all this rain and warm temperatures, our hostas and companion plants are doing quite well. This pink caladium blends well with any of the hosta varieties we grow in our gardens.

Every summer, Bike man plants caladium bulbs around our hosta gardens. It's always fun to see what intensity of color each caladium will have. I love them all!

Beautiful day today with comfortable temperaturres and lower humidity. I wasn't able to cycle today, but BM was able to get his ride in....and that's a good thing!

Storms Again & Again

Dang it. The storms and rain screwed up our plans today. Wanted to get a bike ride in, but storms hit around 11 am and then redeveloped in the early afternoon.

Instead of heading off on our bicycles to the Menomonie farmer's market, we drove by car. Spent a quick 20 minutes looking over the vegetables and flowers. Ended up buying zucchini, garlic, jalapenos and green beans.

Came back home and decided to work in the garden, only to be interrupted by another rain storm. Geez! After the storm, I headed back out into the garden and once again it began to rain. This time I just continued to keep pulling those weeds in the moderate rainfall. At least the weeds pulled out easy with the soil being saturated with moisture.

By 7 pm tonight I was busy putting together the veggies I bought at the farmer's market. I took some stew meat and marinated for several hours. Then I cut up zucchini, colored peppers, green beans, jalapenos and onions and put them in a zip-lock bag with olive oil and my favorite herb mix. The veggie mix was grilled along with the marinated beef. Perfect meal for a Saturday night.

Oops, hear more thunder rolling in tonight. One more round of small storms.

Finally

Finally, Bike man and I rode the Red Cedar trail late this afternoon as the weather was perfect.

With all the recent rain, the river level was up. A beautiful night with lots of birds singing and sweet smells from all the wild flowers blooming along the trail. The legs felt good tonight. (26 miles)

Liquids

Staying hydrated, that's the key! Came home after a day-long workshop for my job
and enjoyed a few beverages of my choice. Lots of ice....yup!!!!!!

Bike man had the sprinklers turned on watering our garden and yard. I was tempted to stand under the water spray, but decided to take a shower instead. Hoping this is the last night of extreme heat and humidity.

On the Edge

Unsettled night with big storms to the north and east of us. When I got home later tonight from work, the temperature was around 90 degrees. With the storms approaching, our temperature has dropped to 78 degrees.....wow. Now, if only our house temperature would drop! At least the winds tonight feel much, much cooler. This weather is so weird. Can you believe that last night Jacksonville, Florida had a low of 64 degrees? What??????

Everyone is dreading tomorrow when our temperatures are suppose to reach 98-100, with a heat index of 115-120. Ouch!

Uncomfortable.....All Day

Hot and sultry today. Can you believe we had dew points higher than Texas and Miami! No bike ride today. Also, no air conditioning at our house, so I'm feeling pretty miserable. It's pretty sad when you look forward to going to work for the new week, but at least my work enviornment will be cooler and less humid. Took two cold showers, but thinking about a third one! Lots of baby powder......I swear by it. Baby powder makes you feel more comfortable!

Bike man did some stream monitoring this morning, but came home drenched in sweat. Just a steamy day all around.
