It's That Time of the Year

Who is that mask woman?  Psst....it's Trisha, and she's enjoying the warmth of the portable ice fishing shack.

Today was the annual ice fishing contest on Tainter lake.  This was an important day for my family, especially the guys!  There's always that glimmer of hope that one of the guys will catch the "big" one!

Everyone showed up today in vehicles, but not Bike man.  He cycled his way to the ice fishing contest on his snow bike and studded tires.  Way to go BM!!!

Ended up being a slow afternoon.  One false alarm and even though the flag went up, there was no fish.

As you can see, others were catching a few fish during the contest.

Spotted our friend Carol, with her daughter and granddaughter out on the lake.  With a high temperature around 19 degrees, the girls headed over to the food and beverage trailer to get a cup of hot chocolate.  Today was a day to be bundled up in layers, but it sure felt good to be outdoors.  Hope to get out tomorrow as well despite the ice and snow storm moving in.

Blog Worthy

One taste and I told Bike man this was blog worthy!  With our cold weather settling in this week, Bike man decided to make some comfort food tonight.  After a long day at work, my stomach was ready for this cheesy, salty and creamy entree.  Please forgive me, but I couldn't resist adding a sprinkle of real bacon bits.  Very delicious for a bitterly cold evening.

I've posted this recipe in my Turtle recipes!

When the Cold Winds Blow.....

Spent all day indoors.  Yup, it's true!  With winds blowing from the west and single digit temperatures, I decided I would not venture out today....no way.  Decided to spend my time in the kitchen today, cleaning and cooking.  Did you know that cold weather calls for healthy soup?  Made a pot of Split Pea and Ham soup.....one of my very favorites.  Topped off a bowl of soup with Bike man's delicious homemade croutons.  Really hit the spot, plus it's low-fat and loaded with fiber.  I won't be posting this soup in my turtle recipes, but just Google Split Pea soup if you want a recipe....there's tons of recipes to chose from online.

Remember to checkout other soup recipes I've posted in my "turtle recipes."  Wind chills expected to be -25 to -35 below tonight.  Think I'll take some soup to work tomorrow for my lunch!
