Saturday Morning Breakfast

I got up early this morning (6:30 am is early for a Saturday) so I could attend a women's breakfast and bible study at church. After the women's bible study, a lot of the men from the church showed up to have a "workday" for the rest of the afternoon. The big project today was moving the Blind Munchies coffeehouse & equipment around to the other side of the room and then building a raised stage on the other side of the coffeehouse. The church I attend has Christian rock bands come and play once a month down in the Blind Munchies coffeehouse. I haven't attended one of the performances yet, but I will one of these months. The rock band events are free! There is always food and coffee drinks available. Once the coffee house is completely redone, I'll take another picture. The picture above was taken right before our bible study.

Breakfast this morning consisted of blueberry pancakes served with butter, whipped cream & syrup. We also enjoyed thickly sliced bacon and orange juice. As always, there was plenty of freshly brewed dark roast or medium roast coffee. The BM has the best coffee and is very reasonably priced....no Starbuck prices here!

Today's study was taken out of the book of Luke 10:25....checkout the parable for yourself. It's a very simple message and can be so useful in our daily lives.

I promised Ted that I would go ice fishing with him this afternoon...he says the fish are calling! It's up to 16 degrees. Wow, a heatwave.

Dust Off Your Library Cards

I thought I'd take a picture of our "Hold" shelf. These are library items that people request online and then they are sent to our library for pick-up. Three days a week we receive a courier delivery of library items that people have requested from other libraries in our consortium. It's such a good deal. Why buy a book when you can request it from a library and then be given a 21 day checkout period...how amazing is that? It's not just limited to books either. You can request movies, audiobooks, music cds, computer games etc. It does keep my staff busy however. Now, if people would just come in and pick up their stuff promply....that's another issue. Remember to use your public library. Your tax dollar help run our facilites! Do you have a current library card????

I Can Spin At Home Too!

When I'm not teaching spinning class (twice a week), then I spin at home on my trainer. Let me tell you there's a big difference between the spinning bikes and my own road bike on the trainer. The spinning bikes are heavy and very stable. My road bike on the trainer is much more flexible and realistic as far as using your gears. Actually, it's much harder on my road bike and I get a really good workout at home. This morning when I worked out at home, I threw my chain (mountain bikers call it chain suck) right in the beginning of my workout....darn. I had to hop off the bike and put my chain back on...yes, my fingers got all black with chain grease. I was so mad. Now with spinning bikes, you will never have to worry about "throwing a chain." I got a good workout however as my cat sat on the bed and watched me spin! Last year I taught my cat how to "high five" while spinning on my bike...really I did! Now my bike is too far away from my bed and kitty will just sit there and watch me. At least she doesn't try to attack my back wheel like last year. Her kitten qualities are finally fading after one year.

It's going to warm up next week...lets all rejoice!

I Told Them I Had a Secret......

I was teasing my spinning class tonight telling them I had a secret and they had to find out what the secret was by going to my blog. I also told them I talk about my spinning class on my blog posts.... I heard lots of giggles in between super spins!!! Let's see if they check out my blog.

The sub-zero weather must be scaring everyone because it was a quiet day at the library. I don't believe we even had any library patrons come in during the morning hours...well, maybe one person. If they thought today was cold, wait until tomorrow. I work until 8 pm tomorrow night so I'm sure the library will be deserted. You know, that's just how it is in a small town. The good thing about the last two days is that we've had lots of beautiful sunshine. I'll take sunshine over cloudy, snowing days anytime.

Just Call Me Wimpy!

You know sometimes I let the media psych me out. For a week now the news has been talking about this cold snap and how dangerously cold it was going to get. Well, every time I went outside today, I was like, " oh geez....it's cold I have to run not walk."!!! After work I even wimped out and didn't go workout at the gym. Instead, I just rushed home to be all safe and warm. Now the guilt is setting in. Finding motivation in the winter months can be challenging. I guess today I'll just settle for wimpy. Tomorrow is another day.

It's All About the Climbs!!!

First, here's a picture of the front of our house, taken on Saturday. After tonight I'm sure the snow drift above our front door will be even higher. Tonight is the start of an "Artic Blast" that will last the next five days. It snowed all day today and then the winds kicked up tonight, so I drove home on drifted roads.
I went to Mark's spinning class tonight. We actually had a full class tonight! Now Mark is biker racer so his classes are always more intense then my spin classes. Mark and I also have different spinning drill techniques, but that's ok, it give fitness club members a variety in styles. My class followers don't know this yet, but over the next four months I will begin to increase my seated climbs and standing climbs. Why? Because by early July I will be riding the Great Divide trail in the Montana mountains and I need to have the endurance to bike 40-60 miles a day on mountain trails. I'm going to make my class members train along with me...they just don't know that yet, HA!

I Miss Road Biking....Darn Winter!

I decided to go out snowshoeing, which is something I really like to do because there's basically no skill involved....you just walk, right foot, then left foot. How easy is that? I do have poles just to keep my stride moving consistently and to help me get through any heavy snow on Tainter Lake. I also have Nordic cross country skis and skating skis, which I'll get out soon, but I just haven't had time to do everything. My snowshoes are really made for running because they are very light weight. I use to be a runner and would run throughout the winter months....eleven straight years! Yes, I was a runner in my thirties and early forties. My body finally rebelled against running so over the last five years I've been doing other activities to stay healthy. I do envy cyclists that ride their bikes all winter long. If I lived in a city or village, I could see myself riding my mountain bike, but when you live out in the country like I do, the country highways are a little bit tricky. Basically, I just don't trust vehicles driving out on the highway during the winter months. Also, I'm just a whimp when it comes to cold temps and cycling. I found this blog of a guy in the Twin Cities that bikes all year round, click here, I have lots of respect for this dude...way to go! I love his pictures that he takes while cycling. Wow, cycling and taking pictures. Only in the Minnesota!
