Blaze Orange

It's better to be safe than sorry!  With the first day of deer hunting here in Wisconsin, I made sure I was glowing in orange as I road with Bike man this afternoon.  Didn't want to be mistaken for deer!

With Bike man's red jersey and my orange jacket, we certainly stood out on the highway.  Today's ride was hard since we had a good southern breeze.  Bike man did fine, but the hills gave me a good workout.  It's hard to believe it's November.  Where's the snow???  (20 miles)

I Think I'll Head South

Snow Snow, Let It Snow!

Fifteen minutes before I was going out to run this morning, my big sis calls me.  "Hey big sis, I'm headed out for a run, only have five minutes to talk."  My sis says, " oh wow, I just got back from an hour-long walk and I'm totally drenched in sweat......it's 80 degrees here in Jacksonville.  What...really??????  As you can see, my morning run dealt with a light coating of snow!

Nice to have day off for Veteran's Day.

Cooking Sunday

Blueberry Coffee Cake

I was determined to try a new recipe this weekend, and one that I could feature using nutritious ingredients with good flavor.  I did find one this morning that turned out great.  The recipe I tried is from the Food Network - Kellie Krieger.  What I like about this recipe is that it only uses 2 Tblsp. of butter and 2 Tblsp. canola oil, along with non-fat plain yogurt.  I was also happy with the combination of whole wheat pastry flour and all-purpose flour, which gave the coffee cake a nice color and texture.  The only thing I noticed is the baking time can vary depending on exact oven temperature, weather conditions etc.  I baked this coffee cake about 8 minutes longer than what it called for in the recipe.  To find the recipe, checkout my Turtle Recipes in my top menu bar.

When the weather changes and coolness sets in, you've got to make a big pot of chili ya know?  It's a great way to use your garden vegetables.  We froze batches of stewed tomatoes with added kale from our garden.    Chili is by far my favorite cool-weather meal. What's your favorite cold-weather food?
