In the Woods

Surprisingly, four weeks make a big difference.  I haven't been salt monitoring with Bike man in about a month, but I was amazed at how crusty the snow has become, which made hiking back into the creeks much, much easier.

Galloway Creek has finally opened up and we could see the small waterfall....it was beautiful.  Once the weather warms up again and the snow melt returns, this creek will be raging.  Add a good rainfall or thunderstorm and where I'm standing will be under water....I guarantee!

The snow is melting and the creeks are losing their layer of ice.  We could easily walk across this creek today.  Thank heavens I had my new waterproof boots on.  It was a wonderful day to be out walking through the woods.  Hey, I heard a Morning Dove singing, how exciting.

Slow Melt

I'm lovin these longer days of spring.  The slow melt has finally started.

Oops, this is what happens with lots of snow and many snowplows back and forth.  The homeowners are summer residents on the lake and will have to repair their mailbox when they come back in the warm months.  Maybe tomorrow I stop by and pick up their mailbox and move it off the road.  I'd want someone to do that for me ya know?

Be Observant

I actually got to head out for a mid morning run, wow!  Look at the mounds of snow alongside the road.  The snow is actually taller than me and I'm just under 5 feet tall.  The good thing is, it's finally melting, but slowly.

So, the number one thing I found alongside the road today?  Beer cans.  The funny thing is, I rarely see soda  pop cans along the road.  You know, it really bothers me that so many people are drinking beer while driving. Why???  And to think that this road is one of our bicycle routes.  I also saw a couple beer bottles too. Yikes.  Not a comforting feeling knowing people are actually disobeying the law when it comes to drinking and driving....I literally mean drinking alcohol while you're driving.  Not a good thing for walkers, runners or bicyclist.  I guess the important thing is to always be observant with your surroundings, especially when you're out on the road.

Completed Two

Tonight marked my second complete year of serving on the Menomonie Market Food Co-op Board of Directors.  Where has that two years gone?  So, I'm starting my third year and I hope to make this my best year of serving.  I really enjoy the food co-op staff as everyone is so friendly and helpful.  Do you see these two young women smiling?  Their smiling because they love their jobs and the co-op believes in treating their employees with livable wages and benefits for both full and part-time employees.

So, our annual meeting tonight was filled with great food and amazing comments from co-op members.

These Deviled Eggs......a staple at every co-op events.  There are so many other good foods that the co-op offers.  Have you visited a local co-op recently?  I highly encourage you to join a local co-op in your area.

Birthday Girl

The birthday party started at 2 pm this afternoon, however, there was one problem.  We walked into Caryn's house and discovered water was leaking into her dining room.  The birthday party was put on hold until Bike man, the Birthday girl, and Ron could go up on the roof and shovel off the heavy snow.  Yes, the Birthday girl, Carol, high-tailed up to the roof to help the men......what a women!!!

Don't worry, the Birthday girl was treated to gifts, wine, cheese and crackers.

I love Carol.  She really knows how to dress for her birthday party.

The food was great with lots of gluten-free choices and vegetable based entrees.  There's nothing better than being around healthy minded friends who believe in real clean foods!

After our birthday dinner, we headed out on our snowshoes in 40 degree weather.  The snow was deep and breaking trail was actually hard.

Caryn's land actually heads down to the Hay River, which enters into Tainter Lake.  We snowshoed down to the lake after walking about a mile.

The Birthday girl, Bike man and I took a short breather by the lake, and then headed back to Caryn's house.  We arrived right before dark.....loving the Daylight Savings time!
