We Had Half a Day of Sun

Biked to work today. A cool morning start, and a cool ride home. Enjoyed the sights and sounds of the countryside on my ride. Freshly cut clover in a field about one mile from our house...it smelled so good.

Ended up going out for pizza tonight after getting home from my ride. A nice end to a long day. (24 miles)

That White Fluffy Stuff

There are these trees near the building where I work and every spring they drop these cotton balls. This has been the thickest I've ever seen the cotton stuff...you almost want to hold your breath or keep your mouth closed so you don't accidentally swallow a bunch! A customer said to me the other day at the library, "look, it's snowing outside."!!! Yup, that's what it looked like for sure. Now that the weather is drying out again, the cotton stuff is flying around like crazy today.

No matter where you walk, you see this white fluffy stuff. When I left work tonight I opened my car door and all this fluffy stuff floated into the car.
Tomorrow I will ride my bike into work so we'll see if the white stuff will be clinging to my bicycle!

Thumbs Up!

Burrrrr, it was a chilly ride into work. I'm really glad I chose to wear my capri tights this morning. I was watching the weather coming from the west (Minnesota) and saw light rain approaching the Twin Cites metro area, but at my house it just dark grey clouds and cool temps.

Overall it was a nice morning ride with lots of smells and amazing sights. I spotted wild pasture rose all along the roadside on the other side of Tainter Lake. The pink color was so intense, and so fresh looking.

I thought this was cute this morning. As soon as I rode into town and headed down my usual street to get to the library, this older gentlemen was walking down the sidewalk. As soon as he saw me coming down the street, he broke out into a big wide grin and gave me the thumbs up. I had a good inner laugh to myself. If you only knew the community where I work....no one here bikes to work. In fact it's not considered "cool" to ride a bike in this community because everyone owns cars & trucks and very few people bike for exercise. I guess the thumbs up made my day!

Friends Help Friends!

You know, sometimes we librarians multitask...sometimes by choice, other times because we just have to. My part-time librarian Kellie, was asked by the Police Chief if she had any sewing skills. With Kellie being very handy and skillful, she said yes. Well, Kellie took home three police uniforms and sewed the Colfax Police patch on one sleeve and also sewed the American flag batch on the opposite sleeve. I guess the Chief still has another 10 or so uniforms that need patch sewing, so Kellie will do her best to fit it into her schedule. Isn't that nice of Kellie to help out the Chief???? That's the nice thing about working in the same building, we help out the police department and the police department watches out over us for our safety.

Bad news blogger friends. My laptop died last night around 10 pm. I confirmed it this morning when I tried to turn it on again this morning. The screen was totally grey and white and Windows would not load. Help Chris!!!! Hopefully my son can come over tonight and retrieve ALL my digital photos.

So, if you don't hear much from me this week, it's because I have no extra computer at home. I'm using my work computer right now, but won't do that too much unless I can come into work extra early to blog before my work day begins.

Did Someone Turn Back Time?

Rain, rain, rain...all day. Guess we needed the rain, but it made for a dark, cold day. No bike commuting for this gal today. Guess I'm not a die-hard. It finally stopped raining around mid afternoon, but when I got home after work, the wind kicked up and now we have a misty rain going on.
I heard lots of people complaining today about the grey and cool conditions, but don't fret, summer is just around the corner.
This is really bad, but after getting home from work tonight, I had to turn the heat back on in the house! After feeling cold and damp all day at work, I just wanted to warm up. I can't remember a time in June when I've turned the heat back on in the house! What the heck is going on?
I guess I feel guilty because my spouse is camping this week out in the elements....and here I am, in the house turning the heat on! Geez, I'm such a wimp. I hope I can get motivated soon to be biking everyday....I need the physical exercise which is good for both the body and mind.

It's a Birthday Today

Happy Birthday Krissy!
Sleep in late, put your feet up and RELAX today...it's your special day.

In the Kitchen Today

Fragrant Bouquet (hosta)

Did someone turn back the date? I had to remind myself it was the first weekend of June, especially with temperatures in the low fifties today. Breezy, cool and dark grey...that was our kind of day today. Went to church today in a skirt and frozen my little toes!

Had another wave of nostalgia this afternoon. Someone I know has a birthday tomorrow, so I decided I would bake that person my favorite birthday cake recipe, dating back to 1980. Not sure what it is, but I'm stuck on 1980's this weekend!

Life was much simpler back in 1980. Check out the economy back in 1980. Wow, gas was only $1.25 per gallon! Being only 20 years old, I had already completed a year of college, but took a bump in the road and quit college and moved to Madison, WI. I only lived in Madison for about four months and then temporarily moved back home until moving to Northern WI in January of 1981 to attend a new college. Through the bumpy time in my life, I still didn't abandon my cookbook ledger. I always loved to cook and bake. It was kind of like therapy for me.

Tomorrow I will post a picture of the cake that I baked this afternoon. It's called "Mother Ann's Birthday Cake." I was pleased at how the cake turned out.
Becca was home briefly...slept at our house last night, but then had to leave this afternoon to drive back to Minnesota. She's on doggy duty next week. It was nice to see her. Briefly saw Chris today. We shared a quick grocery store trip together before I headed back home this afternoon.
