It's a Secret

Sweet sunshine most of the day. Enjoyed dipping my toes into the lake.

First Saturday in May is always the fishing opener here in Wisconsin. I counted 12 boats out on the lake near our house.

Spent my day packing......packing for a long road trip. I'll leave it a secret for now and reveal our road trip later in the week.

All About Family

Wetland Along the Red Cedar River

Some weeks just seem longer than others, and I'd have to say this was a long week....work wise. Just when I feel drained, I receive a little happy pick-me-up from my dad today. My dad spent the last 30 days putting together a dvd of our family get together back in April. I put the dvd into my laptop tonight and watched an hour of film footage of my sisters, brother-in-laws and the folks as we spent two days together celebrating my dad's cancer-free check up and my sister's 32nd wedding anniversary. Wow, the laughter and emotions came flooding back to me.

Family is so important, no matter how crazy it is. Laughter, tears, silliness.....it's all worth it in the end. If you can't unwind, let go, let loose, be crazy......then I feel sorry for you. Getting together with my siblings and parents meant being myself and enjoying the moment. It also showed me how valuable it is to spend time with family.

My message: Spend time with your family!

Please Let Me Rant

Norwegian Rosmaling

Many of you have been reading my blog long enough to know that I work for a public library. As the Library Director, I deal with all aspects of running a library.....budget, finances, policies, politics etc. Yesterday, the Wisconsin Joint Finance Committee voted on reducing library funding at the library system level, and also to take away "Maintenance of Effort" for all public libraries in Wisconsin. This will mean our municipality or city will be able to fund us however they please. If they want to take away all of our funding, they will be able to do that. Unbelievable! I truly wish our new Governor would have been working side by side me today at work just to see how important libraries are to the general public.

I wish he could have experienced all the needy, and technically challenged people that I had to help today. I know this will sound like a rant, but every Internet user today needed help in some way......I can't get my document to print......how do I print out my payroll off my employment website.......how to I transfer an eBook to my device.......how do I turn on this computer.......where do I insert my flash stick.......excuse me but can you watch my laptop while I run back to my apartment (my co-worker dealt with that one, geez)......so on and so on. Oh, and then there were all the phone calls!

My body and mind is bewildered to what is going on in our State. I help people everyday, especially people with very little skills. Those are the people that will be hurt by our State government.

Just trying to make sense of it all. Maybe I will be able to jump on the bike soon and not think all this political mess. End of rant...thanks for reading.

Felt So Good

I felt like I was treated to a special show this afternoon. As soon as I hit the RC trail late this afternoon, nature treated me to a a wonderful ride. Spinning the wheels felt so good.

As I rode today, I was treated to many frog sounds, bird songs, spring flowers and a face full of midges....kind of like gnats! And this frisky woodchuck ran up the tree along the trail when he saw me coming on the bike. Come on, have you ever seen a woodchuck run up a tree? Crazy. I also had one big raccoon run out in front of me along my ride.....and then there was the herd of deer that ran ahead of me on the trail.

I really needed this today. Just to get on my bike and experience the quietness and peacefulness was priceless. To think yesterdays high was only 37 degrees and today reached 58 degrees.....it made such a difference in my attitude and spirit. (22 miles)

High Hopes

Best part of my day

Tried to make the best of a cold, March-like day. High hopes for tomorrows forecast of sunshine and 50 some degrees. I must be getting paranoid because I just have a hard time thinking it really will be decent tomorrow. I'm really counting on the weatherman here because I loaded my Trek in the car tonight in hopes that I can do my first trail ride tomorrow along the Red Cedar. Tonight was an hour walk....quiet and very cool.

Chilled To the Bone

It's hard to believe our yard will look like this in a month or so. Spring is definitely slower this year with our cooler temperatures. So what did I see this morning? Remember, I can't say the word. I saw that white stuff....yup, I saw it on this first day of May. I also saw a brief moment of sunshine late this afternoon. It was very brief however. Got excited when I saw the thermometer reached 39 degrees this afternoon. Seriously.....it's like early March weather!

Even though it was a grey, and cold today, the Son and his girl came over and spent the afternoon with us. The windy conditions kept us indoors.....is it really May?

Breaking Out the Happiness

After an all day rain, the sunshine is finally breaking out late tonight. Smiles are hard to come by these days with the cool temperatures and frequent rainy days....but we're trying to be happy. Hoping that tomorrow will be warmer and drier.
