This Is Spring....Ahhhh?

Really? This is spring!

I shot this photo last night when the current rain system was coming into our region. Well, the rain and fog has lasted all day today. Unfortunately I did not venture out this afternoon, for a walk but just stayed home. The drizzle and fog kept me indoors, what can I say. So what happened to the 50 degrees forecasted today? Only reached 39 degrees. I think the weather forecasters were way off. Hoping for a brighter day tomorrow.

These Days Are Limited

Late ice means catching nice perch. Why is it that we have to wait until the last days of ice to catch the most fish? It's that way ever year. See those perch.....I cooked up a nice fried fish dinner tonight. Fried perch is my all time favorite, followed by Walleye.

It was one week ago today that we adopted the new fury creatures. Just so you know, large cats running and playing sounds like a herd of elephants. Seriously, it sounds so loud when the Maine Coons run. Even when they walk through the kitchen it sounds like a human walking. I'm not use to this yet, especially since Annabelle walks like a featherweight and I never know when she's walking up from behind me.

The cats are becoming more comfortable everyday. It's fun to see them all playing and running together since seven days ago, all I heard was hissing and growling!
Spring certainly is on it's way. Heard and saw lots of robins this afternoon on my long walk along the country roads. Then while visiting Bike man on the lake ice, tons of Canadian geese flew overhead....the sky was alive with geese. Rain and thunderstorms are in the forecast. Yup, spring is finally here.

Anticipation

It's funny, I'm excited when the studded tires go on in early winter....and them I'm excited when the studs come off in the spring. It's a love/hate situation and only my cyclist friends understand this excitment.

Bike man decided today was the day to switch tires since he had some extra time. Ya know, it's a lot of work to overhaul the wheels, lube them , check the bearings and clean them. Bike man does it all. I wonder what his time is worth if you added it up in $. All I know is, I could not possibly get those studded tires off the rim.....they go on really tight and even BM has difficulties getting them off. Thanks BM for all your efforts.

House of Cats

House of cats update: all felines are beginning to except each other. The fury giants are feeling more comfortable in their new home, however, noises still scare them. For some reason, they do not like the sound of someone coming through the main entrance of our house. I think visitors will have to tread lightly until the cats become more comfortable with sounds and different voices. Abby, the new female, was still hissing at the Son today while he was here visiting. I think it will take her a long time before she is trusting of new faces.....poor sweetie.

I'm so glad Annabelle is just chillin. She isn't giving up any sleep time over new cat friends!
This has been a tough week for me due to the time change. I've been looking really tired and feeling super tired. The warmer temperatures are a nice welcome to what lays ahead. With the major snow melt and rain in the forecast, cycling is looking more appealing.

Things Are Melting

Took a late walk tonight after work....felt really good to be outside. The days are warming and the snow is melting. I really wish I could spend more time outdoors....my body and mind really needs it right now.

The Power of Catnip

It's amazing what a little liquid catnip will do. Bike man stopped at the store today to pick up a few cat essentials. Liquid catnip (spray) put Annabelle and Aiden into a crazy moment of playfulness. A little spray on the scratching post area of the cat tree house really did the trick. When I came home later tonight from work, the cats were all frisky and running here and there. I was so excited to see Annabelle opening up to the new cats in a playful way. I do have to say however, that Annabelle was was sending wrong signals to Big Boy. She wanted to play with him, but at the same time was growling while reaching out to play. What??? Kind of like I'm interested in you, but don't think about touching me mister!!!!! I give the cats another couple weeks and they'll all be playing hide and seek for sure.

Things Are Changing

The sun is getting higher in the sky and the shadows keep growing in length....how exciting.

Look how fast the lake ice is melting, just to the north where the river enters into Tainter Lake. I realize there is still two feet of ice in our bay, but I've made the decision to hang up my snow shoes for the season. I will switch over to walking the country roads until I'm ready to start cycling again. Bike man and I checked the back roads where we normally cycle, and the roads are almost clear of snow and ice. Now we just need some rain to wash the salt off the roads.
Cat report: Abby, the female is still hiding and sleeping for most of the day, but Aiden has been checking out all areas of the house in short burst, then retrieves back to the spare bedroom. Tonight while making dinner, boy kitty came into the kitchen and started chattering to me....almost like he was trying to tell me something. I'd have to say that maine coons are very intelligent and vocal. I'm guessing within a week, both cats will be more at ease with their new home.
