Seasonal Weather Is Back

Lambs Creek

Warm sunshine.....who couldn't ask for anything better. Only a high around 46 degrees today, but boy that felt good. Bike Man and I decided to go and monitor the last of our streams (we've done 7 streams every month since May, and now we are done. Yippee

Once in the spring and and fall, our monitoring includes recording the bugs we identify in the water. Even though the weather has gotten much, much cooler, I was amazed at the amount of water bugs/larva we found. I think we identified at least elven different species.

Once the sun came out late this morning, the creek deepened with colors and the water just glistened. After spending all week indoors, it felt so refreshing to be outdoors. Came home from our stream monitoring and did a bunch of stuff around the house and then worked for three hours outside raking. I'm totally pooped now.

Back To Looking Green Again

Sunshine, clouds, then more sunshine today. The sun looked nice, however, I spent most of my day indoors working. Ended my day at the fitness center working on a new spinning routine. I was the last person to leave the fitness center. Friday is not a popular day at the gym! Me, I love the quietness of no people around.

Not Again!

Woke up this morning to.......yup, SNOW. What a sloopy mess. I was late arriving at my training session this morning because I had to clear the snow off my car from last night, plus the snow was sticking to the road so I had to drive a little slower than normal. Left at 8:30 am and arrived home around 8:30 pm. tonight. Some of my work days are way too long. On a side note, my Ruby came in the house today and will be set up on the bicycle trainer. I hope to have some weekends I can still ride her outside, but the way the weather is going, maybe not so!

The Fire Was Stoked

I enjoyed spending some time outdoors last night helping our son, who is currently building an ice fishing shack. The ice shack is coming along slowly, so I lent a hand helping out last night holding the frame pieces in place, while Chris was hammering nails in place.

It definitely was a cool night outside so Chris built a nice warm fire out of his wood scraps....a very hot fire too! I was just glad to get outside last night for some fresh air. I'm hoping the ice shack will be finished in another week or so. Lake ice is only about 6 weeks away!!!

Never Say Never

The Shawl Club

I distinctly remember someone saying she never gets cold. Well, today Krissy admitted she was cold. Spending all-day in a work environment that has no heat can send chills throughout the body. Still no furnace has been ordered for our building! Our day started off in the 50 degree range. That's cold by any standards.

All I can say is, Kris joined the "shawl club" today. Whoo hoo! Thanks for letting me take your picture today Kris. I know this kind of stuff never happened at Penair, but hey, you're in a small town atmosphere now.

Snow Came Sooner, Than Later

By the time the snow ended this afternoon, we received around 4 inches. Because the temperature never went about 34 degrees, a lot of the snow in the grassy areas did not melt today, so we will wake up to a very white look to our landscape. Never in my life time did I remember Wisconsin receiving snow on October 12th. Back in 1990-91, we experienced the famous Halloween snow storm, which left lots of snow from Northern WI to Minnesota. The Twin Cities received like 15 inches of snow in that storm and many roofs collapse because of the heavy wet snow. Well, this early snow was no where near that magnitude of the famous Halloween storm, but certainly the earliest snow ever that I can remember. So Saturday's forecast is calling for 60 degrees! Go figure that.

Taught cycling class tonight, and will teach another class tomorrow night. I will be covering on Tuesday nights for Mark, while he recovers from his bicycle accident. Hopefully he won't have to have surgery due to muscle damage and internal bleeding. Haven't heard the details of his crash, but I believe it was an off-road spill.
PS. Remember when I told you all our building is without a workable furnace right now? Well, I hit the nail right on the head. I predicted the library air temperature would be 49 degrees on Monday moring....yup, that's exactly what it was. Kellie predicted 42 degrees and Rose (Anchorage) predicted 44. Thanks girls, you were a little off, but close!

The "S" Word

Bittersweet

Woke up to another 28 degrees this morning. Eventually, I will get use to these cooler temperatures, but it's just too darn early to think about snow. Anyway, we are forecast to receive 2-3 inches of accumlative snow by Monday night. This is really funny because my blogger friend/follower (Sarah's Jottings) from Calgary, whom Icorrespond with, talks about her weather conditions. As it seems, whenever she talks about her weather, we usually get her weather like 3 days later. After Calgary's first snow fall, last week, we got snow too. She just reported receiving snow again, and now our forecast says......yup, SNOW. I'm convinced that our prevailing jet stream comes straight west from Montana and northwest from Alberta.

Well, the Bike Man completed his bicycle and camp-out trip this afternoon. I drove over to Cadott to meet him and brought him home via car. He ended up doing 80 miles total and burned around 7,000 calories. The cold weather didn't dampen his spirits too much. I'm totally opposite. Cold weather camping is not my idea of fun. Cycling is ok, but not camping out in a tent! No way.
