Special Visitor

It didn't take long and the felines found her.  Mom Moo is staying with us for a couple days and I don't think she has to worry about being alone.  When grandma comes to visit, she has four fury friends that crave lots of attention!

Zero

There was plenty of fungi and many varieties of mushrooms, but our search for morels this afternoon was a big fat zero.  Can't complain though, we had a great hike through the woods that belongs to a friend of ours.  After our morel search, our friend Caryn treated us to a "hikers snack" which consisted of wine, Gruyere cheese, focassia, butter sauteed morels, grapes and pistachios.  What a wonderful treat from a wonderful, and sweet friend.

As for the morels, I think we're a week late......darn

Scenic Way Home

A full day of awesome sessions about the future of public libraries, at WITC in Superior, and then it was time to go home.  Since bike man was traveling with me, we decided to take the scenic way home.  Northwest Wisconsin has some very barron land. We off-road in Brunette County.

Crossed the Namekagon River

The barron land went on for miles and miles.  Interesting land, but I was glad to get home.

Twin Ports

Off to one of the port cities for a work symposium.  Actually, the hills in the distance represents my favorite city....Duluth, Minnesota.

Barker's Island was pretty quiet today due to the cool temperatures and rain earlier in the day.  Luckily, the skies cleared as we approached the city of Superior.  The sunshine blinded me!

A few brave souls headed out on the cruise boat.  I froze my butt off trying to take this photo.  Air temperatures tonight are around 45 degrees, but windchill says 42 degrees.  Another cool night dipping down into the 30's here in Superior.  I'm still rubbing my eyes because I can't believe the calendar says June 6th.  Oh and by the way, the tree leaves are just budding out here in the Great North.

My Little Visitors

This is the week in June I wait for all-year long.  The last week of school  always means visits from the grade school students.  I love their little faces when they walk through the door at the library and discover a whole new world of books, puzzles, puppets, games and lots of computers.  It sometimes makes me sad that many of these children have never step foot inside their local public library....can you believe that?

So, I always greet the children with a happy smile and thank them for walking the four blocks to come and visit the library.  I do my usual telling them about the history of our library, the history of the village, give them information about the 1958 devestating tornado and then I segway into why they should have a library card.  I also do a plug for our Summer Reading program and then end with questions from the little ones.

Questions?  Well, it's more like stories.  Their teacher tells them to remember to ASK a question, but it never fails and some of the children have to tell THEIR story.  Now these kids are dead serious.....they look you right in the eyes as they tell you this animated story.  I just smile and kindly nod my head.  I love children and I mostly love their innocence. Children just want to be heard or want be recognized.

I have a lot of respect for teachers....it's a hard.

What's the Date?

Is it really June?  Where's the warm weather and the sunshine?  Thank heavens for bedding plants from the greenhouse.  The highlight of my day was giving  library tours to 1st graders of our local school district.  Those little kids just make me smile.  Their questions don't always relate to the library tour, but more, it's about speaking so they will be acknowledge.  You just gotta love kids!

One Month Ago

Bike man and I headed out on the Tainter Lake bike route late this afternoon.  Simply pleasurable today.....62 degree with light wind.

As we were riding on River Road, it dawned on me.  One month ago, today, we had a big snow storm in Western Wisconsin.  As we were cycling, I saw the tree damage from that storm and it reminded me of that particular morning when I decided to take our bicycle route to work.....bad, bad, idea.   I only got so far and then had to slowly turnaround, praying that I wouldn't get stuck in the deep, wet snow.  I had to stop and take a photo of the spot where I maneuvered my turnaround on that snowy road.

I can hardly believe this photo was taken one month ago.......I'm not kidding!  We've had some crazy weather this spring.  Ok, so I won't mention the snow word again for about six months.  Hold me to it!!!
