A late call this afternoon from my girlfriend Joan, asking if I wanted to come over and help butcher chickens. Sure, why not. I love helping my friend, she's such a hard worker.
My job was to pull out the intestines.....the easy job. First you carefully cut through the skin of the chickens butt and carefully get your hand inside to pull out all the "stuff." Joan's daughter Nikki was also there to help out tonight.
And look, even Grandma Shirley came along to help wrap the chickens in freezer paper....thanks Mom Moo!!! Twelve chickens butchered, de-gutted, cleaned and wrapped, all in about a two-hour span of time. Not bad for us women folk!

There's something about that kind of work...it's real.
ReplyDeleteMan I would have had to wear gloves! Nice of you and your Mother to help out..
ReplyDeleteYou never cease to amaze me! Wow, I can't say I know many these days that butcher their own chickens. We just tried to add an ordinance to allow chickens to be raised in town- but no way was it going to pass :)
ReplyDeleteFun times! Did you get a fresh chicken out of the deal?
